Mrs. Engelbarts

My name is Heidi Engelbarts. I teach middle school special education and am an assistant coach for high school track. I grew up in Buffalo Center and am a graduate of North Iowa High School. I graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa with a BA degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in reading and special education. I received my coaching endorsement from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

After college, I moved to Houston, Texas where I taught 5th grade reading, writing and social studies for one year at Mission Glen Elementary with the Fort Bend school district. I then took a middle school job within the same district and taught 6th grade reading and writing and coached 8th grade volleyball for two years. After three years of living in Houston, I moved back to Iowa where I taught elementary special education for three years at McKinley Elementary with the Des Moines Public School District. I moved back to Buffalo Center in the summer of 2008, worked at North Iowa Community Schools as a paraprofessional for one year, and now teach middle school special ed full time.

I enjoy reading, playing sports, running, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. My husband, Mitch, works for IMT Insurance and farms on the side. We enjoy being back in our hometown community. On April 28, 2010 we became proud parents of our son Tate:
