I was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and attended Sioux Valley High School, graduating in 1980. I attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and a minor in Speech Communications. I began my teaching career at Lakota Consolidated School in 1984 and continued here in 1987 when what is now the North Iowa Community School District was formed.
My life companion was the math instructor at North Iowa High School for 33 years. He currently works part time at Farmers Trust and Savings Bank. We have two children, Abbey (N.I. Class of 2005) & Stephanie (N.I. Class of 2008). Abbey is married and teaching Middle School Writing for the Greene County School District in Jefferson, Iowa. Stephanie is now Mrs. Ryan Osborn. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Allen College in Waterloo. She is a nurse at Iowa Methodist Hospital in West Des Moines.
Our family has always enjoyed traveling, sporting events, game & card playing, and just being together. We are big Vikings fans and all love riding roller coasters. Our vacations tend to be active and filled with stories. Many of those carry over to the classroom because everyone has a story to tell.
I am anxious to get to know the students and parents of those that I have in class. I believe that everyone should be able to share their story. My love of speech and theater will be obvious in some of the things we do in class. I believe that honest communication is so important, and I am an advocate for students. I am willing to devote extra time to any project that improves a student's ability to communicate more effectively, become a lifelong learner, and a more caring citizen.
